85 Birthdays

We celebrated Mom T.'s 85th birthday yesterday. We made plans to pick them up and go out to dinner. I miss not having our daughters and families too, we were spoiled to having them close for years. I notice it most at birthdays or holidays since that is when we would all gather and have a meal together. One of the most memorable birthdays was Mom T.'s 70th. That was a surprise party with about 30 of her closest relatives! She is one of 6 children so when you get them all together, you have a crowd!

We spent a few weeks planning and calling, sneaking around and playing down the big "7~0" that was approaching. They came over often to swim or for dinner, so when we invited them to come for a birthday bbq she wasn't expecting anyone but us. She had crackers and cheese in hand as they came through the back gate and the masses shouted "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" as loud as they could! I can tell you at that moment I realized that big a surprise might have had a bad effect. She looked like she was going to faint, then cry, then faint again!

There's something extra special about having the ones you love the most celebrate the special times in your life. Her brothers and sisters are close and share family triumphs and tribulations. No matter what the family is always there to give congratulations or comfort.

Mom T. loved her earrings and enjoyed hearing from all of the family on her special day.

Eighty-Five birthdays and you just never get tired of hearing the birthday song!

  1. Aw, Happy Birthday Momma!! It sounds like you all had a wonderful day with her. Ear rings too... my gosh i've not worn ear rings for so long. No matter, just poke a bar through & the holes open right back up. Happy 4th to you and yours.
