"Pre-Sleep"

Every night Hubby and I watch tv together after dinner, he stretches out in his recliner and I settle in on the sofa with all of the accoutraments needed to a comfortable sit down… iphone, dog biscuits, leopard faux fur throw, glass of ice water and catalogs that came that day. I get a lot of catalogs. I don’t order from them, yet I keep getting more everyday. Monday nights we watch American Pickers on TLC followed by Pawn Stars. We love them both, they are kinda like Antique Roadshow, but with a laugh track! We nod in and out of conciousness if we aren’t careful, we can’t get too comfortable or we’re out like a light! I didn’t know there was a name for this until I got the Growing Older List from my SIL last week. It’s called “Pre-Sleep,” the nap before going to bed!

All the things we used to think were bad for us are now good for us. Coffee actually strengthens your hearbeat, chocolate and wine are rich in anti-oxidants and now I see that a short afternoon catnap of 20 minutes enhances alertness and concentration, elevates mood, and sharpens motor skills. Naps of up to 45 minutes may enhance creative thinking and boosts sensory processing. Now go take a nap and don't feel guilty for doing it!

  1. Fisherhubby and I do the EXACT same thing - - - only I'm the one in the recliner and he's on the couch and I, of course, get to hold the REMOTE CONTROL!!!!

Oh, and we don't watch those shows - - - we watch PTI and Around the Horn and then crime solving dramas.

So, I guess it isn't EXACTLY the same after all!!! Hehehehehehehe

  5. I love those two shows! My niece even texts me to let me know when they are on.

When I am out junkin', I think I just may find the "big one". But, alas, after 30+ years, I haven't yet.

    I love your blog! N

  11. I'm guilty. Napping is very beneficial to young old and in between......usually a 30 minute or less power nap is all that's necessary.

  12. Since I have gone back to work full time I can't stay awake past 9. Mind you I get up at 5:30 am.
I tried to relax at work after a difficult call and then worried that I would fall asleep at my desk with my headphones on.
The next call would have scared the crap out of me and I am sure I would snore.Lol.
    I love a nap.
