The Worry Box

I have a "worry box" in my head. It's for storing big stuff and little stuff, my worries and worries for the ones I love. Right now it's full of relationship worries. Someone I love has a broken heart and I'm feeling it too. He's too young to have a broken anything. In fact he was 6 a blink ago.

He was swimming like a fish in the pool. He was spending the night at Nana and Papa's. He was playing cars and riding his bike. So how can it be he's now juggling work, school and relationships?

About 16 is when it starts getting complicated. Up till then, it's pretty easy... homework, friends and riding your bike. Then one day you just wake up and you have responsibility. As much as I want to help, this time I can't. It's gonna take more than Bactine and a bandaid.

  1. Joycee, my heart goes out to you. I remember when my son's heart was broken for the first time and how he cried at the table as we talked. He too was 16...:)JP

  4. I have heard the saying....When they are little they step on your toes and when they are grown they step on your heart. It isn't easy to see a loved one hurt but its the hurts that often develope character. With you as his grandma...I am sure he will come out better on the other side.

  5. One of our grandsons has recently had the same type of experience. It's so hard when there's nothing a Granny can do to make it better.

  6. Watching our grandchildren grow up is sometimes more than my heart can stand.. I am so concerned with my grandson who's mother died last year. He misses her so much and has withdrawn from his family.. He talks with me and we share lots of things.. He is now 13 and in that difficult age of junior high..the stress of school work, making friends and hormones waking up in ones body who is not ready for all the challenges.
All I have to offer him is a listening ear and show him that I love him, and pray pray pray...that God will keep him safe.. ta ta for now from Iowa.. annieptigger@aol.com

  8. About all we can do is be there for them and listen.

Both our children and their families live away from us so I don't know a lot about their day-to-day lives but the minute I hear their voice on the phone, I can tell what kind of mood they are in.

I am a worrier too; I feel for you!
