Celebrating Two Years

Do you ever start cleaning off a counter top, then notice the coffeemaker needs a good thorough cleaning and the next thing you know you've washed and straightened up the cabinets, cleaned out the fridge and organized the "junk drawers?" That's what happened to me yesterday when I decided to "clean up" my blog. I'd been thinking about it for quite a while. Today makes two years since I started blogging and it's time for a facelift. I can't do anything about the ice and snow on the ground, but I can put me some spring green on the blog! I had winter pictures for the header too, but for right now I'm going to pretend it's June-ish. I found a font that's more like I wrote you a letter, remember letters? We used to get them in the mail. No not email, mail. It came in a box like this....

People you loved used to send them once a week 'cause they missed you. Even if you just lived the next town over, 20 miles away you still got a letter from them. Inside would be clippings out of the paper.

Aunt B. sent me this clipping last week from Jay Harshaw's Potluck column in her SW Times Record. She  often shares interesting articles or great recipes, so I set down with a cup of coffee and started reading the column. The title gets me excited already, one of Pioneer Woman's recipes, "Chocolate Cobbler"...YUM!  I see another great recipe for Truffles and another for Neapolitan Style Homemade Bread. Just then I spot Aunt B.'s name and then I see she suggests Jay needed to visit Granny Mountain , that I'm the best in her book! If you have only one Aunt B. in your corner, that's all you need! I've been fretting that I'll never reach 200 readers and in one fell swoop she was able to give me a giant advertisement in the Fort Smith paper. I'm never going to be a Pioneer Woman but hey, I'm still having fun every time I set down at this computer and write, sharing my trials and tribulations and you listen, just like a good friend. Blogging is the new "old letter" that came in the mail. It brings good news and bad news, happy news and sad news. But it's the fact that it keeps coming that matters. We care about each other and that's what friendship is after all.

  3. Karen, it's on the design tab of Blogger's Dashboard. Click Template (but you don't have to change the one you have) then Advanced and then scroll down on Page Font, it's called "Homemade Apple!" I am so ready for spring, I'm just going to pretend it's spring when I'm blogging!

  4. I like the new look and it loaded much faster for me with my rather slow wireless connection.

I wish more papers would do the recipe feature. My favorite French bread recipe came out of the paper back in the 1970's.

I need to get your bug for indoor cleaning; shoveling snow keeps getting in the way!

  7. Happy blogging anniversary!

I put that same font up on my blog yesterday and loved it. But changed it after a few hours as I thought it might bee too hard to read for my foreign visitors. Do you think it would be harder for them or am I being silly?

  9. This feels so friendly! I really like it. I got hand lotion in my eyes this morning when I rubbed them, so my vision is a little blurry, but I think I see the comment dates as the 5th. I am sure it is my eyes, because that just doesn't make sense. Oh well, getting old ain't for sissies!

  10. Joycee -- congratulations on 2 year's blogging! Love your new redo on your blog! I loved your comparison of blogging to receiving letters in the mail. I don't receive hardly any letters anymore -- my parents generation has passed on. I used to love receiving juicy, fat, letters. It sure made getting the mail more fun; now I receive credit card offers instead. I enjoy deep cleaning and I need to do some deep cleaning on my blog too. Joni

  11. I followed the lead and the article was great, maybe my pen name should be Suzanne! They did a really nice job and I feel so complimented.

Congratulations on 2 years. I agree that blogging is the new letters, my letters from blogging friends far exceed the number of letters I ever got through snail mail. I enjoy opening my posts and having comments. My nearby friends don't understand that, they never comment and I tell them that is the only way I know they came. Many years of continued blogging.

  12. Beautiful, Joycee!

Sometimes we just get in the mood for a change, and sometimes someone else gets in the mood first and we get inspired. I think I feel a touch of inspiration coming on...

  14. Happy blogging anniversary! How I miss the days of letters in the mail! I just can't get the hang of facebook, skype, and emails to stay in contact with family and friends. I love the newspapers back home that still have recipes and such in them. My mom is a major recipe clipper! I made chocolate cobbler for a fellowship at our church and they ate it all! They had never heard of it before, now they all have the recipe!

    Lovely blog!
