The bathroom door is closed. Please do not stand here and talk, whine, or ask questions. Wait until I get out. Yes, it is locked. I want it that way. It is not broken, and I am not trapped. I know I have left it unlocked, and even open at times, since you were born, because I was afraid some horrible tragedy might occur while I was in there, but it's been 10 years and I want some PRIVACY. Do not ask me how long I will be. I will come out when I am done. Do not bring the phone to the bathroom door. Do not go running back to the phone yelling "She's in the BATHROOM!" Do not begin to fight as soon as I go in. Do not stick your little fingers under the door and wiggle them. This was funny when you were two. Do not slide pennies, LEGOs, or notes under the door. Even when you were two this got a little tiresome. If you have followed me down the hall talking, and are still talking as you face this closed door, please turn around, walk away, and wait for me in another room. I will be glad to listen to you when I am done. And yes, I still love you.

Love, Mom

  1. Living with 7 kids and one bathroom, have been there, done that. Every once in a while I would travel with my hubby just so I could stay in a motel room and have some privacy while he made calls on customers. I thought I was in heaven.

  2. Ha, ha, ha. I so remember those days. My kids learned it pretty fast but the darned cat wouldn't leave me alone for a minute. A closed door was considered an invitation or maybe even a challenge to him. You can't help but laugh when you see the entire arm of a cat swatting under the door to get your attention. If you let him in and shut the door again he wanted out right away.

  3. Oh, I hear ya! And I'm with Lori, too, my cat waits outside the door for me, meowing every time I make a noise. I've tried bringing her into the bathroom and then she stands at THAT side of the door, meowing to be let out!

  5. Hahaha... I can sure relate to this! I still have a yellow caution sign on my bathroom door. It says, Stop, privacy please. This means you! Only works if they read it and they never read it.

  9. You did a good job holding your ground. The day comes when you need and deserve some alone time.
