Main Street Cafe- Hackett, Arkansas

The noon crowd that gathers at the Main Street Cafe in Hackett, Arkansas are hungry, hardworking folks. I looked around the room and saw the faces of middle America. The ones who live simple lives and like it, the ones who struggle to pay taxes and most likely the ones that Congressman Steve Womack talked about last week at the Town Hall meetings held for District 3.

We can't help but worry our future, it's apparent that Washington is clueless to what we face with higher prices for gas, groceries, utilities... the list goes on. Unlike government, these folks would be in sad shape if they didn't have the money to cover their debts. Miss a few payments to the bank and the farm that pays your bills is in jeopardy. Lord help us if we get sick, because health care plans are hard to pay for when your work is your cattle.

The cafe was full the day we visited. Friends and neighbors of the small community of Hackett, a town of roughly 800 people gather at the Main Street Cafe to talk politics, to exhange the news and share their worries and their joys.

Most of them ordered the Blue Plate Special of fried catfish, fries and brown beans. Table by table, they left... off to an afternoon of hard work. Another day, another dollar.

  2. Great post, just like everywhere in 'Our Town, USA', honest, hard work and watching over our shoulders as Washington, DC is picking our pockets and sneaking into our back doors while we are at work....Don't even get me started!!!

  3. Love the photos of "real people". You won't see them on the evening news, I hope people will vote out all the current politicians (democrats & republicans), they are not representing us, but instead playing political games. AND we must have TERM LIMITS and end the days of professional politicians. Then, we would see positive changes. Whew! I just needed to say all that. LOL

  7. I think things are rough enough for the average American family already, and I don't anything promising in our future unless we get the politics out of Washington, along with every one of the incumbents.

OH, what I wouldn't do for a plate of that catfish. We don't get it around here. I remember hushpuppies down south.. it's been many many years.

  11. Democrat or Republican, hard working people are getting screwed by the "politics of Washington." But they're never going away. Which so sucks.

  12. Regardless of what they say, those folks in Washington are so out of touch with the reality of real life in America. If they all had to spend one day doing REAL work and experience how middle America lives every day, maybe they would see things differently. On another note, that blue plate special looks wonderful!
