Organized People

I was one of the O group only a few short years ago. If you'd asked me where the extra screws were that came with the green bird feeder we bought 5 years ago, I could have told you in a second! Upper shelf in the garage, next to the car wax and beside the sandpaper. Now, I tell the person asking-- usually my better half and usually on a Saturday, that he should have paid attention to where I put it 5 years ago when we assembled it and saved said screws!

We have a job ahead of us if and when we move from this house. It's been 7 years now and I've stuck things here and there, always planning on putting them up "later." It's complicated since we have three floors, nothing that I need is on the right floor at the right time! Up in the attic where I keep seasonal stuff to decorate with, are the misfits of the house. Things that don't match the decor, clocks that don't work and wedding gifts from 42 years ago! This is the year I start paring down, I mean it! I'm giving away, donating and cleaning house. I took a load of clothes to Goodwill recently, the things that don't fit and will never fit me again.

Why do we hold onto stuff that we know we will never use? Just short of hoarder, I'm a keeper. I like that word better...

    1. We are facing this task with my mother in law now... she's considering a move to assisted living. It's going to be hard!

  2. Joy, you should put my daughter in charge....she is what I call a minimalist. If they aren't using it, out it goes....same for clothes. She will die when she has to go through our things. I sometimes think about that with just a tad of glee! I can just hear her!

    1. LOL Well, we'd have some fight if she tried to throw away the clock in the attic that hasn't worked for 40 years, but belonged to my Grandma! I have so many things like that. And then there's the cost factor too. Our girls are glad to have my cast offs so that's a good way to pare down on a regular basis!

  3. Keeper definitely sounds better than hoarder. I think I'll call myself a keeper, too.
