Happy Mother's Day!

The Mother’s Hand (1966) by Antanas Sutkus

Mother's Day is Sunday, I didn't have to tell you though. All of us who have Mothers, had Mothers or have been Mothers know when it's our day. It can be a day of pampering, but most likely it's not. You still cook or clean or straighten up after kids or husbands! But Mom's just do that, they don't think twice about picking up the family room before bedtime or folding a load of clothes while dinner is cooking. My Mom was a typical 1950's Mom who stayed home with my brother and I and gave up all aspirations of career or fame so that she could wipe our noses and attend every school play we were ever in. Daddy went to work and Mom did the rest.

If you think about it, childhood is a very small part of our lives. In 12 years we make the memories that we carry with us the rest of our lives. Not enough time really to do all the things that make for a happy childhood...

It was such a blessing to have her in my life and I honor her this day.

  1. Happy Mother's Day to you too. And treasure the remaining days you have with your mom!

    1. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day! We spent the whole weekend celebrating... first with my Mother-in-law on Saturday, then Mom on Sunday and then we went out with our daughter and family Sunday night! It was great fun and no cooking involved on my part!

  2. What a lovely Mother's Day tribute to your mother and all mothers like her...Love the list!

Wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day! xo

  3. Wonderful list! I could check off all but the pumpkin patch Too! Happy Mothers day~

    1. I guess they just didn't do that until the last few years! I don't feel like I missed out on a thing!

  4. What an absolutely wonderful post! I really enjoyed reading it! It sure took me back a ways... back to some great memories. As I read your list, I realized just how much today's kids (and mom's with them) are missing out on because of our electronics age.

Mother's Day will be extra special for me this year because it is also my 50th Birthday. I was actually born on Mother's Day and oddly enough, my 50th also falls on Mother's Day!

A WONDERFUL HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you and your mom! She sounds like a terrific mom.

    1. Thanks Anna! That's so true, we did things that didn't cost much and I really feel like I had a wonderful childhood. There's a burden on parents today to provide so much and it's hard. Happy Mother's Day/Birthday to you!

  5. That was great! I had a mum who stayed home with us and we did so many wonderful things. Best of all, though, was that I could take for granted that she would just BE there every day, day in and day out, to listen and love. What a great gift that was!

    1. We did take for granted our Mom's being there for us. The next generation it wasn't the norm, I was lucky to be able to be a stay at home Mom.

  6. Happy Mother's Day, Joy!

    1. Thanks so much, hope your day was fun too!
