Happy Holidays...to Me!

The holiday season will run you ragged, if you let it. Make the decision now to be nice to yourself and take a few shortcuts. Your family won't give you your "Walking Papers" if you don't make every single Christmas Cookie known to mankind! The neighbors won't even notice if Santa and the Reindeers are needing a coat of paint or a few of the Christmas lights aren't working.

Give yourself "permission" to enjoy the holidays this year and be nice to YOU!

Watch a funny Christmas movie
(Elf, Christmas Vacation, and A Christmas Story.)

Get cookies from the bakery.

Change your voicemail to reflect the Joy of the Season.

Read the classic holiday stories before bed
(whether you have kids or not!)

Attend a Christmas pageant.

Make sure you have a collection of holiday music in your car.

Hang Christmas lights around your bedroom window,
makes you feel like a kid again!

Go for a ride to see the lights.

Purchase a new favorite Christmas album.

Go to the movies and see the holiday blockbusters.

Sit in the dark with only the tree lights on.

Keep hot chocolate and marshmallows handy at all times.

Wear a Santa hat while Christmas shopping.

Watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special.

Hang mistletoe.

Get your picture taken with Santa.

Catch a snowflake on your tongue.

Go Christmas caroling.

Instead of wrapping presents,
use gift bags.

Put holiday-themed wallpaper on your desktop.

Don’t overdo it —
it’s ok to say no to some of the holiday parties.

Hang Christmas lights around your desk or in your cube.

Set up a wrapping station in your home to make things more efficient.

Decorate the tree with old pictures of Christmas' past.

Light a good smelling holiday candle.

Exuberantly pop the bubble wrap that comes in your online orders!

Leave a plate of cookies for Santa
(and a carrot for the reindeer.)

Change the ringer on your cell phone to a Christmas song.

Share stories about the best Christmas ever.

Hang a picture of the Grinch on your fridge to remind you to smile.

Wear red and green...
a lot!

Treat yourself to a holiday massage or manicure.

Share a plate of yummy cookies with an elderly neighbor.

  1. You are sooooo right about this one. As I sat in my recliner last night watching a fire in the fireplace and enjoying the Christmas tree lights - - - I was thinking just that same kind of thing. When I went back to teaching full time I was FORCED to cut back on how long I spend decorating, shopping, baking. I've found that a few well placed items give just as much Christmas cheer as days and days worth of decorating work. We've also streamlined our shopping. Now I have time to simply ENJOY the season. (Of course it DOES help that this year we get out of school a week BEFORE Christmas)

    Amen sister - - - keep preaching!

  4. All of these are great reminders. As a child, I loved taking rides to see the lights. What a treat!

This year I've been slowly getting my decorations up, but it hasn't stressed me out. By the time I finish, I guess it will be time to take them all down again.

  5. Now those are all good ideas. I like the one - sitting in the dark - and just looking at the lights. Breathing ....

  6. Great ideas! Well, is it alright if we wrap gifts with recycle papers??? Since we've to go for GREEN X'mas! Then they shouldn't cut trees for sales! Use recycle plastic X'mas trees instead!
