Go Home!

We had a visitor over the weekend that wouldn't leave. She saw the welcome mat and decided that she liked the accommodations and was going to just stay for the winter. Normally I would roll out the red carpet for guests at my house, I want them to feel comfortable and consider our home their home while they are here. If I know they are coming, I bake a cake or a pie and of course have fresh sheets on the bed. But this visitor came unannounced, just slithered right into the garage... yep, that black snake that wanted to stay last spring returned and she had her bags packed to stay the winter. Hubby told her the inn was full though and encouraged her to leave.

I put this mat out, hoping to deter any others who are looking for a vacation home for the winter. That and keeping the garage doors shut are probably good ideas until after a hard freeze!

  1. When I saw a teenager I had to get something out of our garage. As I walked past a pile of old oak chairs stacked in the corner, one of the chairs MOVED! Actually, it was a VERY large black snake. My mom was thrilled. She caught it and put it in her garden. I however was terrified to go in the garage for years. So I feel your pain. :)

  2. Oh my! I would have fainted. I hate creepy crawly things, especially snakes.
    Are those black snakes poisonous?

  6. Must be that time of year. When I went to put the hens up the other day, there was a chicken snake checking out the nest boxes. We scared each other, that snake and I. There was a brief pause as we stared at each in disbelief and then we both skeedaddled ...in opposite directions! I did manage to see his exit route though and we have since plugged that hole.

I love the music on your blog, Joycee. I always enjoy your posts but sometimes I keep your blog up long after I've finished reading ...just to enjoy the music.

  7. Snakes are not my favorite creature either. They scare me to death.

  8. I'm with Keetha Denise. Let her stay she'll do you a favor and eat the mice who will also want to overwinter in there. I love snakes, find them fascinating... that said, I do not like to be surprised with them like the one that got into my bureau drawer when I was 14! Seems my brother's snake made her escape and found a cozy place to sleep off her adventures for the winter. We thought she was long gone by the time I happened upon her in that drawer! :D

  9. oh dear, a snake in my panty drawer would just be too scary for words! Truth be told, Jerry made the executive decision to shoo her away...we are both terrified of snakes, poison or not. Besides, Ben the King sleeps out there and he's a bigger puss than us!

  10. OMG, how did you know it's the same snake? It has special mark or something? Luckily, you guys found out about it or else Ben will be in trouble! *sigh* Hope you're having a wonderful day, Joycee. Time just flies, isn't it! Another winter to come.
    Blessings, Kristy

  11. Not sure if it was the same snake, but it was determined to stay just like the one last spring that wanted to help me plant flowers. She just kept coming closer, and closer. Black snakes are beneficial, they keep the rodents down and also eat other snakes. I just don't want them in my garage or slithering over my foot....YIKES!
