Breathe in, breathe out

If you watch TV, if you read the papers, if you get your news online...then you have stress in your life. That's only one facet of our lives, add the normal day to day stresses of work, family, finances, relationships and it's enough to get anyone down. I'm heartbroken over the attack on those in Tucson this past weekend. Senseless deaths, gone now are people who were living life to the fullest and contributing to our society. It could have been even worse, but heroic bystanders took the shooter down, risking their own lives. Roger Salzgeber and Bill Badger tackled Loughner, Joseph Zamudio pinned his legs and Patricia Maisch who grabbed the magazine from Loughner’s weapon. Giffords intern Daniel Hernandez used his first-aid training to keep the Congresswoman alive until paramedics could arrive.

It causes us all to breathe uneasy now. Afraid to participate in free speech at public gatherings, it stifles us as Americans. Our country needs God's help to heal and His guidance to overcome the mess we are in. Almost like a panic attack, I feel the need to breathe in and breathe out...I'm very worried about our nation.

  1. Oh, me too, Joycee.

Hardship brings out both the best and the worst in people. It pushes the mentally unstable like Loughner over the edge, and spurs innately GOOD people like Salzgeber, Badger and Hernandez into heroics. We saw so many examples of both during 9/11. I cling to the hope that the ratio of these two extremes will continue as it has ...one act of lunacy bringing about countless acts of selfless heroism.

I pray for our nation and for our children who will inherit whatever we let her become.

  2. Joycee, we are too good to have this happen. However, it did and with all the sadness and grief, it also makes us hopefully more aware of what we have to be thankful for...freedom!...:)JP

  3. Horrible things have happened in the past too. We just didn't have instant coverage with video cams or cell phone cams showing it to us almost in real time. I keep clinging to that thought that the world hasn't gone completely crazy.

I don't know what the answer is. Gun laws will never keep weapons out of the hands of criminals or crazies.

When you hear of the actions of these bystanders, it makes you wonder if you would be as heroic..............

  4. I am worried about our nation as well. In fact I worry nearly every day. Sigh...

  5. This sort of thing is the worst of us and the best of us.

I try not to watch the news. It makes my heart hurt.

  6. That photo is so very striking. And so very sad. Indeed, we must pray for our nation and our world.

  7. You're right Ilene, the news is just too hard to watch anymore. We get bombarded with bad news on tv, in the paper, on the internet...finally our minds just say "NO MORE."
