In the South when it's in the 90's with humidity levels the same, you try to plan your activities indoors. Yesterday we got an early start on visiting The Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma so it wasn't too hot getting shots of the gardens. Our last visit was 29 years ago when our daughters were young. The Philbrook, built in 1927, sits on 23 beautifully manicured acres.

Villa Philbrook was designed by Edward Buehler Delk (1885–1956), a Kansas City architect, in the Italian Renaissance style. Waite (of the Phillips Oil family) and Genevieve Phillips and their children Helen, sixteen at the time and Elliot, ten enjoyed the impressive home until 1938. At that time Waite Phillips surprised Tulsans with the announcement of his gift of the 72-room mansion and surrounding 23 acres of grounds as an art center for the city of Tulsa. The Philbrook is one of America's finest art museums.

Tomorrow the inside... for a sneak peek go to Philbrook Museum of Art!

  2. The gardens are just lovely and look so peaceful!! On a hot day, I have to admit I'd be tempted to wade in a couple of those fountains or ponds...

  7. I went to college in Tulsa, and used to study on the bench under the, what? gazebo? Probably not the right name. Haven't see it in 35 years. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories I re-lived this morning.

  9. I love Philbrook.
When I was a child it was a big treat each year when our class boarded a schoolbus to go to there. We would tour the museum then eat our sack lunch on the grounds.
The photos show that time has been kind to Philbrook.
Glad you are enjoying your visit.
