On the road again...

My mother in law and I took a little road trip up to Kansas last week to visit her sister and brother-in-law. It had a been awhile since Mom T had been there and I don't think I've ever been to Kansas. If you could have been a little mouse along for the ride, you'd have had to listen to a million family stories and stop at every place that looked remotely like it might have fall decorations for sale! We kept our eyes peeled for diners too, pie and coffee was on the to-do list!

Mom and her sisters are peas in a pod; alike in looks, mannerisms and general outlooks on life. Model thin with a spring in their step, from a distance you'd never guess their true ages.

Like children they delight in every new experience and adventure that life offers, never passing up a trip to someplace new or a shopping trip!

But if you look a little closer and listen, you see that the roles have changed. No longer the older sister watching over the younger one, now an arm slips gently under my mother in law's to safeguard her steps.

Sisters, who have walked many steps together and apart. Years living in different states... even different countries, they are still bound by blood and heartstrings. They linger with each laugh and each memory, too delicious remembering that house in Rea Valley where they ran barefoot down to the creek!

"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost."

    1. Our little trip to Topeka was so much fun! My mother in law is 88 and has the energy of a 20 year old! She and her sister don't see each other near as often as they'd like, that's the way it is with families scattered by miles. This hole in the wall was a hidden gem... so good!

    2. I love having a chance to reply to all the comments, but it makes me have to post multiple days so readers have a chance to see the replies. I load my posts up with so many pictures that it makes the blog run slow. What do you guys think... one post per day or multiple posts with comments?

  6. Sweet treasures... you just wish we could never grow old and times from our youth always engage us in the present. My family is so estranged that it's been eons since I've last seen any of them.

thanks for sharing this part of your life.

    warm hugs,

    1. It was fun, Aunt Nadine has lived in Topeka for 35+ years and worked at the Capitol and Washburn University, she's a wealth of information about the city. She even made the time to take me to HyVee grocery store, she knew I would love that since I'm a "foodie!"

    1. The trees were just turning there, by the time we got back to the Ozarks ours were turning too! All this rain is really helping the colors along, of course it means the leaves won't last long :(
