PB&BS

Hey... what's this? Someone has left a big ol' tray of peanut butter suet out here just for me!

Wait a minute, it could be poisoned...

It doesn't look poisoned....

It doesn't smell poisoned...

I'll just take an itty bitty bite and see what happens...

Oh crap, ith stucth to th wff uff my mouff!

*To make your own suet:
8 oz. lard
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter(PB)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
leftover bread, cubed small
1/8 cup sugar
1 cup dried fruit
1cup sunflower seed or mixed bird seed(BS)
Melt lard then add peanut butter, flour and cornmeal, sugar, dried fruit and sunflower seeds. Stir in enough leftover bread to make a thick pasty mixture, pour into miniloaf pans and refrigerate overnight. The next day cut slices to fit your suet feeders, wrap in wax paper and freeze until needed. I use my cast iron bird feeders and just pour the mixture in, set on the deck and stand back!

Have a great weekend!

  2. I just made suet cakes using some beef tallow I had rendered from the last beef we had processed.

It makes 6 cakes that fit in those little green wire cages.. I never thought of adding bread cubes.

I enjoyed the pictures and the captions!

  5. Such great photos. That bird was just posing wasn't it? I remember my mom making her own suet. We had naughty little squirrels that used to steal the bird food.
