Hunker Down

I put the down comforter on this morning when I changed the sheets since we have a forecast of first frost this week. The Ozarks are famous for our quick changing weather. The old timers have a saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." They're predicting a warmer winter for our part of the country, but that said we will have our typical "wintry mix," cold rainy days and the inevitable North Wind knocking on our door all Winter long!

Hubby flew off to Buffalo, NY this morning for the week. He had an early flight so we were up at 4:30 watching the Weather Channel. Minneapolis had snow over the weekend and more predicted for today. I have a sinking feeling this is going to be a bad winter! I don't know how people in the North face the long, cold days. As much as I love the cozy warm house and the comfort foods that go along with cold days, if I had to start Winter in October and finish in May...it might push me over the edge!

Arkansas is far enough South that we have 4 distinct seasons, but none of them hang around long enough to wear out their welcome! Our Winter typically starts in late November and by February or March, we will have 50's during the day. Since I have "Missouri Blood," that's pretty nice weather for wintertime!

I hope you are having a nice Fall day where ever you are!

  3. You actually make the weather sound like a perfect time for nesting. I hope your husband's trip is not affected by the weather. Take care and have a good day.

  4. I do miss those Ozark falls. We pretty much have four seasons here, but not enough snow in the winter to suit me. I like one really good snow a year, and we haven't had a good one in years.

    LOVE your blog.
the photos are always beautiful and your words are always "warm". I got a good laugh at your Holy pumpkins. You're in a beautiful area of Arkansas. So glad you enjoy it and share it with us via photos.

  6. Oh, to have four seasons....we have a long, long summer since our spring disappears before one can enjoy it! Sometimes you can't really tell the difference between May, June, July, August, September and October!

This year...a bit different. October has been wonderful! My favorite month even if the heat lingers....

I am envious of your seasons!
