Pinky~Swear

Remember Pinky Swear???
When we were kids it meant a solemn promise. Serious stuff when your 8, we'd wrap our pinkies around the pinkie of our bestest friend and both swear (promise) something to each other. Usually it was a forever promise, i.e. to always be friends or to never tell another living soul a secret shared between the two. It was the ultimate bond between friends.

We need to reinforce Pinky Swear into politics these days. I don't think it would really do any good though. Government spending is out of control. Medicaid is trying to figure out $$$losses. School districts and cities are trying to find money to operate. We're in a mess.

I'm afraid I've lost confidence in our government. I don't see progress on the issues that were talked about so much around election time. I'm afraid they are making the rules up as they go, not telling us that they don't know the answers. So maybe we need to go back to second grade and Pinky Swear on important bills like health care reform.

Do you Pinky Swear that this will help Americans?
(Cross your heart, hope to die, stick a needle in your eye?)

  1. Sorry, but I don't think it would help. Politicians would do this to your face, and do different things behind your back. I'm like many Americans these days - no faith in our government any longer. I feel they have weakened America in the eyes of other countries. We no longer look like the strong nation that we 'were' in the past. Too many cards have been placed on the table for the world to see. And, I, for one, am tired of seeing the President and First Lady in the news every single night, making high school speeches, romping with children in day care, and other "campaigning-type" things they seem to be doing to try to get re-elected the next time around. It seems phony to me, and I turn the station. The office of President should be held in a higher esteem, and should be working on things that matter most to the public - like bringing jobs back to the USA, the war overseas, and that oil spill. Not campaigning during the whole first term in office. (Sorry - I'll get off my soap box now!)

  2. Love the picture of pinky swear....it wasn't the pinky swear that worked...it was the fact that the people who made them were loyal and clearly that is not what we are dealing with today. I am totally amazed at how they aren't even embarressed when caught in an out and out lie and say something like (I miss spoke).........

  3. Like so many, I am very frustrated with our current officials. Once upon a time the thought was that a man was only as good as his word. Hmmm - I don't see many good men around right now, at least in the political arena.

  5. We call it "Pinky Promise" around here but yes, I know exactly what it is and how binding it is (we also would 'swear on a hundred Bibles' when we were kids).

I don't know how to solve the problems with our government but I don't even think they would honor the binding quality of the pinky.
