Nothing but Blue Skies

We got out on the lake Saturday for the first time in weeks. The hottest summer on record has kept us cabin bound just like the winter months do here in the Ozark mountains. I fried some chicken, we packed a cooler and off we went to meet up with the kids who were camping over at Prairie Creek. The sun was shining, it was in the mid 70's and we headed up the lake toward Horseshoe Bend where we lived when the girls were growing up. I love to go up there, it brings back happy memories. In the distance, we could see some dark clouds... on the water isn't a great place to be when a thunderstorm threatens, so we turned around and headed home. Watching the sky all the time we could see that the bad weather was toward Rocky Branch area, a good five miles from us.

Above us was nothing but blue skies and big, fluffy clouds! In the distance, the dark clouds began to lift and slowly, ever so slowly, you could see the beginnings of a rainbow.

So pretty, it was almost a mist.

It started in Escalapia cove and kept growing...

and growing...

until it reached all the way across...

Showing off, I'd say!

  2. That is a beautiful picture! Although I do wish those dark clouds produced some rain.....we're still in a drought and I'm afraid our hay won't be coming in at all this year!!

  3. Beautiful.
That lake looks very much like our lake...Lake Monroe. We have a lot of limestone here.
    Thanks for sharing.
