You can tell a lot about a nation by what they choose to remember. Memorial Day means many things to us. To the Veterans who have served, it's a reminder of a job well done. To families who have made the sacrifice of a loved one, it's a daily reminder that freedom has a cost. For most Americans it's a weekend filled with parades, barbeque and family time.
It may mean a trip to Grandma's house...
A picnic if you're lucky...
...and Cousins to share the fun!
Add some Cherry Pie and it can't get much better than this!
Whatever you do this weekend, take the time to honor a Veteran, those who have served our country so that we might enjoy all the things that America means to us.
A very American post, and have yourself a very nice Memorial Day weekend. Richard
ReplyDeleteWe all love the day off and the bbq's, but we need to pause and remember those who have secured our freedom. Hope your weekend is filled with family and fun!

DeleteA few of the surrounding towns are ready for their Farmers Markets but Veterans are my highlight on Memorial weekend!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteI love going to the Farmer's Markets every year too! We have old fashioned fruit stands nearby that have local produce! Have a great weekend...
DeleteDarling pictures and a loving post today! Very uplifting for our beautiful country! Thank you as always, Joycee!
ReplyDeleteThank you Betsy! Living in America is a privilege, we have much to be grateful for!
DeleteI have already seen lots of flags unfurled in our area. I remember going to the cemetery with Grandma and taking home grown flowers to decorate.
ReplyDeleteWe always had homemade ice cream made with a crank freezer.
This post brings back a lot of nice memories.
Glenda, your memories are the same as mine... we'd go to the cemetery every Memorial Day, most would bring flowers from their yard to decorate the graves. Peel had a service in the old church and we'd all have on dress clothes. I remember squirming on those hard benches and thinking the service would NEVER be over! No ac and the windows and doors would all be open to let the breeze go through. After the service they would have long tables set up with loads of food "dinner on the ground" was served under those big old trees. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting as people would come and go. Decoration Day.
DeleteAll of these are so AMERICAN and truly wonderful. God Bless our Veterans and thank you for honoring them every year on your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeri, it's a strong memory in me going back as far as I can remember to decorate the graves for Memorial Day. So many of the Veterans in our family are gone now, including my brother who served in the Vietnam War.
