When men cook, especially when men cook for other men... presentation isn't that high on the list. It's all about taste, fat content and potatoes! I have one lone picture to put on this post, the low country boil that was Saturday night's dinner for 10 hungry guys on a trout fishing trip. It had been 40+ years since my husband had seen some of his old friends from that first year at college. What do you say to someone you haven't seen in that long? It wasn't hard to start remembering funny things that happened or stupid things they did. Like illegal cooking in a popcorn popper in the dorm room, or the fact that they didn't change their sheets for a whole semester because they "forgot" to take them home to wash. YUK! Playing cards all night and then not being able to get up for that early class and then trying to explain to their parents why they were flunking. One time a water fight got "out of hand" and ended up flooding the whole 5th floor of Yocum Hall, that one almost got them all expelled. Good memories and some not so good!

Friendships that began in high school are impossible to just forget. This weekend was a great chance to catch up and to go back to a time when they didn't have any responsibilities. A time when their lives spread out before them, uncharted and with endless possibilities. They've all found success and happiness, they've raised families and moved on to being grandparents. For all but two of the group, they have retired from the daily grind of work. My husband can't wait for his turn at doing nothing. He has big plans to read, fish, travel and sleep in! All the things he did this weekend...

  1. I've been retired for two years now and I love it. I don't spend much time doing nothing though. It is good to know that I can when I need to. And I most appreciate being able to do what I want to do on my own timetable rather than having my daily tasks revolving around making money for an employer.

Hope you found those Astilbes and foxgloves, and I hope you have better luck with the foxglove than I do. Mine never ever come back
