Not April Fool's

Back in March I held my breath, daring to say we were going to have an early spring. That's the kiss of death, a sure way to "break the spell" and boom you have 8" of snow the next morning! So I didn't allow myself to think such thoughts, I adjusted my Ozark brain to the typical cool, sometimes downright cold weather we normally have. But it never came. We had some grey days and some rain, but for the most part it was nothing short of glorious.

Now we are into April and I'm going to say it out loud...
"I think Spring is going to be early this year."

We'll still have an Easter squall, when the temperatures drop a little and rain is forecast. It happens every year, you can count on it. It looks like that "spell" of bad weather will arrive the day after Easter according to Accuweather. All next week will be stormy and cool.

"Blackberry Winter" arrives the first week of May when they are in full bloom. With these warm days I would imagine the berries will be ahead of schedule.

Then there is one more... we have another cool spell the first week of June when the gooseberries bloom. Guess what it's called? You're catching on...

I drove to town with my windows down, I'm already in my capris and flip flops, I am loving this weather!

But if we get snow, I want to tell you that it's my fault. I jinxed the whole thing by planting tomato plants last week...

    1. Me too! My husband keeps saying it was buying that snowblower that gave us "snow insurance!"

  2. We had temps in the 90's the last couple of days. That's unheard for this time of year. I sincerely hope it's not an indication of an extremely hot summer!

    1. The Ozarks of full of these old folklore beliefs, but the reason they've stuck is that it happens every year!

    1. Thanks so much, it's so green! If we don't get more rain though I'm afraid summers heat will make it just like last summer. The grass and trees were brown in August, it was terrible.

    1. Thanks Glenda, we are perched here on the side of Granny Mountain. "Billy Goat Land" Mom called it! This will be a record year for fruit trees if we don't have that late frost that the Ozarks are famous for! I haven't looked at our blackberry patch, need to do that!
