Good Genes...

(left to right in the picture...me being held by Mom, my Grandpa Keeling, my Great-Uncle Claude...in the front my brother and Great-Grandma Keeling. Santa Ana, California 1954)

Mom's Paternal Grandmother lived to be just shy of 100 years, quite a feat in 1963 but not so much these days. With all of the research on centenarians,  people are living longer and longer lives. A new study has found that there are traits found in families who have grandparents, parents, aunts or uncles, brothers or sisters who live to be a ripe old age. There's a website Livingto100.com that has an easy calculator that uses the most current and carefully researched medical and scientific data in order to estimate how old you will live to be. The calculator asks you 40 quick questions related to your health and family history, and takes about 10 minutes to complete. I took the test this morning and it estimated my lifespan at 101 years! Good genes and living a pretty quiet lifestyle definitely bumped up my years!

  1. Good Morning Joycee!
What a wonderful picture of your family with your Great Grandmother. It was only the tough who survived that long back then. My Great Grandfather on my dads side lived 4 months after his 100th birthday and my ex husbands Grandfather lived until he was 106 and both were sharp as tacks to the end. Unfortunately my mothers family wasn't so lucky. I guess it's up to us to do what we can to live as long as we can no matter what our family history is. Good genes certainly do make that job easier though. You've certainly got a good leg up! Thanks for sharing your family photo...have a wonderful day. Maura :)

  2. Love the photo! My paternal grandfather was born just 4 years after the Civil War ended and lived into his late 90's. Most of his 13 children had long lives to. My dad lived to 82 but most of his brothers & sisters lived much longer lives. Although my maternal grandparents didn't have particularly long lives, my mom turned 90 this year.

  3. Hi Joycee, I love the family picture. I bet your Great-Grandma Keeling had a lot of interesting stories to tell. I hope you live as long as she did.
I am very familiar with Santa Ana, CA The first house I owned was on the Irvine Ranch, and before Irvine was incorporated our address was a Santa Ana one.
Our last CA address was in Corona Del Mar, CA about 30 minutes from Santa Ana.
I will check out the website. Maybe:-)

  4. Love the photo full of family history. I think I'll pass on the test - there are some things I don't think I want to know. If it's negative the power-of-suggestion might "get me"! LOL
