Nana's House

Does Love=Food?
It does at Nana's house! Our GRANDson spends the night with us on Friday and Saturday morning we have a BIG breakfast! Bacon, ham or sausage... pancakes if we're in the mood, but more likely we eat biscuits with a side of gravy.

Just because we're Southern, and just because that's what we grew up on!

I will share that my 12 year old grandson's favorite breakfast are CREPES! Light and pinkalicious from the fresh strawberries I puree into the cream cheese filling.... don't be telling anyone that or I will be in BIG trouble!

  1. Even though I grew up in the Northern plains, I still had yummy applesauce pancakes with some sort of meat and I'd roll the cake around the meat and dip away. Loved it and always.. always had eggs. Country life was rough and one needed lots of foods to keep chitlins going.

    Went is brunch next weekend??

    Warm hugs,

    1. Same at my house in Missouri when I was growing up... never a cold bowl of cereal! Of course it was cold in the winter and we needed a good hot breakfast. You can show up as late as 11....

  2. I too love it when the grands visit, I love filling their bellies with their favorite foods. Is your biscuits and gravy listed somewhere in your recipe side? If not I would love to have it. As northern'ers I don't have a very good recipe for the gravy!!! Have a great week, cherishing the memories of the weekend.

    1. I do have a good biscuit recipe, just type biscuits in the search box on the sidebar.. or click on breads and you can find them! The gravy is easy, 2 tablespoons butter and 1 heaping tablespoon flour. Melt butter in skillet and add flour, stirring well then add 1 cup milk, whisk until smooth and thickened, add more to the consistency you like and then season with salt and pepper. If you want sausage gravy just brown the sausage first in the pan then add the butter, flour and milk, the same directions! Simple, but very good!

    1. We have breakfast for dinner in the colder months of the year, it's always a big hit and I almost feel like I've had a "night off!"

  4. Oh yeah! Now you're talking my kind of food and I love cooking for the grandkids. I am spending this week getting food ready to take this week-end for family gather with the kids. :-)

    1. We just did that and I spent the week before packing and planning, so much fun! Enjoy and I know no one will go hungry!
