This Sunday is Father's Day so I think I will go back in the nooks and crannies of my heart to the places that I spent so many happy times with my Dad. He was many things, he was 1/4 Cherokee Indian... and very proud of that fact! His Great Grandmother traveled on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma and passed right through where we live now. I think of that often.
His love of the outdoors spilled over to me. Nearly every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day we'd be on Tablerock Lake's Longcreek fishing those beautiful waters.
Daddy would do the cooking so you can say it was a vacation for Mom, if you don't take into account the fact she packed everything for the trips!
Off highway 86, on the Missouri/Arkansas line, Longcreek is a wonderful example of the picturesque Ozarks. Mountainous and pristine, it's still a great place to bring your family.
It looks a lot different now though, with condos lining the banks near Branson, Missouri. When I was a kid in the 1960's, Branson was a sleepy little town with a Ben Franklin store and a Dairy Queen. I would have never dreamed it would become a destination vacation spot for many families. Branson has music shows, theme parks and shopping galore... but the beauty of the lake is still there and draws people to come and relax. It pulls families each year to the Ozarks to make memories that will last a lifetime.
Great Memories.
ReplyDeleteSure wish we could keep our Dad's with us longer. *sigh
I enjoy your looks back Joycee. What great pictures of your family trips and the beautiful areas near you. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe photos from your past are wonderful, right along with your memories. Our family loves Branson (I've been going there since I was a kid) and thinks of it almost as a second home.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Branson, but have heard great things from friends and family, that have.
ReplyDeleteJoycee, what great old photos and what wonderful memories!
