Explaining voicemail to my MIL:

MIL: I called the phone company to complain this morning about that message people are getting that I don't live here anymore.
ME: What message?
MIL: The one that says I'm not taking any calls and something else that I don't remember.
ME: Oh, that's your voicemail that tells people you are on the phone and to leave a message or call back.
MIL: Well, people are thinking I'm not here anymore.
ME: Tell them it's ok to leave a message and you'll get back to them.
MIL: I don't know how to do that, what button do I push?
ME: The red light on the phone blinks, then you call to get the message.
MIL: I'm just going to cancel my phone service, this is too hard!

Help me Lord. How do I explain 2011?

  1. Awwwwww, that is too sweet. I am sure it is so hard on older people to use all these new gadgets. Heck, who am I fooling, it's hard for me. Thank goodness I have a daughter who helps out when I don't understand and get my bloomers in a wad!! Thanks for the smile. Have a great weekend

  2. Bless her heart! With technology advances being made a break-neck speed I know there are lots of folks out there with similar feelings - me included.

  3. Yes, Bless her heart, and yours for being so loving to her. xo

  4. Yes it's hard to grow older and newer things coming at us so fast we can't figure them out

thank God for grandchildren and young neighbor children to do our electronics

I couldn't figure out wehat MIL was for a long time after reading this
    Mother in law????

  5. Teeeheee....oh the gadgets that we all have to learn! My fourth graders help me learn more things on my Smart Board...that thing is INTIMIDATING! GOOD LUCK!!! And thank you for visiting! Anita

  6. Oh, no, bless her heart. Perhaps she needs a Jitterbug. I feel for her. The newer technology can be quite intimidating as you get older.

  7. LOL How old is Old !!!!!!
Sometimes I feel like doing it too.cancel it all..especially the new cell phones with email, facebook and on & on ,,,

  8. *banging my head on the wall* -
    once for you,
    once for her.

    Change is hard for everyone.

  9. Joycee
Since my MIL is living with us the word patience has taken on a whole new meaning!
I hate to admit it, but that sounds like me talking to my kids about my cell phone!!

  10. Speaking as one who has spent 8 hours with my MIL getting her computer up and running again.....I can't be of help!

She now has her printer printing on the diagonal........dear Lord.
